This installation takes into account communicative capacity/incapacity of the monuments and the dialectic relation established between the violence and the monumental forms. In some cases it is a gesture that pretends to erase the memory of a certain regime or a memory of specific historical period in order to overcome it. It is a ferocious and mass act that we assume inevitably as a symbol of change. The elements that Utopia/Distopia highlights are the destruction of an monument, the representation/ exclusion that any monument exercise entails, the dreams and failures and the passion produced by the construction/destruction of representation of heroes and tyrants. This project doesn´t work with the typical sensationalist, mass media images. It confronts this type of iconic situations in a rather subtle manner, putting the emphasis on the fragility of the memory; on the inherent violence within the very monument and on the function of these radical processes that takes part in forming a public memory. This works presents images, fragments and headings, all of them with the same importance and without any directions from the author. The ivy growing around the work is a direct reference to the ruin, so that spectator would become aware of the survival and negligence of the mentioned monuments. An irreducible and discontinuous multiplicity that is presented as the accumulative sum of an extensive file: an archaeology of the history that appears and disappears.
